Summary0001481: Problem in using refineMesh for O-grid mesh
DescriptionDear Mattijs,

I have a problem in using topoSet and refineMeshDict. In my case, I am working in a Cartesian system and using an O-grid mesh inside a cylinder. I want to refine mesh in the “r” and “theta” directions not necessary near the wall but some parts between the centre line and wall (eg. between 0.3R to 0.5R where R is the cylinder radius). For my case x-direction is (1 0 0) but I do not know how I should define the “r” and “theta” directions in the refineMeshDict file.

I have attached an example of my case. If you use Allrun to generate the mesh and make a clip by twice cutting at the planes
1) point (0 0 0) and normal direction (-1 0 0)
2) point (0 0 0) and normal direction (0 1 0)
you may see the mesh that I want to generate. It looks correct and chekMesh reports OK. But I am not sure and happy with the definition of directions that I've used in the refineMeshDict. If possible, could you please let me know how the directions should be defined for the global and local refineMesh in this case?

Best regards,
MHB

You want to use a patcLocal coordinate system, e.g. starting from the inside (or outside) patch. This defines the normal direction. Then additionally define the 'tan1' direction.
