Did you try the solution proposed in the Installation Problems section?

Greetings to all!

@hk318i: I've checked them all and none of the solutions apply to the reported issue.

@C0274: Please run the following commands:

  sudo apt-get install aptitude
  sudo aptitude install openfoam240

This is because "aptitude" is more powerful than "apt-get", in the sense that it provides more interactive choices on what to do in case of a problem in installing packages.

Please let us know if this works. If it doesn't work, please show us what are the error messages and questions that "aptitude" will give and ask you.

Best regards,
Bruno

PS: I was reminded that aptitude would help in these cases, from this forum post: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forums/openfoam-installation/157138-having-problems-installing-openfoam-2-2-2-ubuntu-14-04-a.html#post557014

Synaptic can also help, but it's harder to explain how to use it...

@Bruno I tried to reproduce this error on Ubuntu 14.04 and 15.04 but I couldn't.
Do you think installing these three libraries before installing OpenFOAM could solve the problem?

@hk318i: Before posting my previous answer, I did a clean installation of Ubuntu 14.04.2 x86_64 (64-bit) in a virtual machine and I was not able to reproduce the problem, neither before nor after updating the whole installation to the latest 14.04 repositories.
But I've also not been able to reproduce the situation where a clean installation of Ubuntu does not have the Universe repository turned on by default. Therefore, I suspect that something is working slightly different in Ubuntu depending on the specific ISO file that is used and where exactly in the world the system is installed.

Nonetheless, in this case, this kind of message usually occurs because new users will have already installed other software in their machines, possible software that relies in MPICH2. Problem is that (as far as I can remember) no one has ever stated what software they installed before trying installing OpenFOAM, therefore it's not possible to reproduce the same problem.

This is why I suggested using "aptitude", because this application has the feature of being able to provide additional options for handling package management, such as the reported problem and as indicated the post I mentioned.

C0274 requested immediate priority and then ended up not providing any more feedback. Closing as "unable to reproduce".
